There are a couple of new games available.
Any ideas on why we can't seem to get a new game going?
I REALLY don't want to go back to the old version where almost every match starts with a couple of NMR's
Any mods that can determine how many people are actually active on this site?

Seems no one would like to play an Anonymous Game
A normal game with player name is more easily to be formed, but Anonymous Games seem not. Is that mean player would love to work to those they "knew" already?
The rule here is that no duo-playing or knowing someone in real life, but seems players here are keen to work with "friends" here, WTH?

I actually really enjoy the Anonymous games, and would prefer to play those. I haven't signed up for any recently b/c I'm in too many at the moment as it is.
I don't know anyone on the forum "In real life" (as far as I know anyway). But there is always a tendency to work with a "friend" (someone you've played with before) within the game because you have an idea of how trustworthy they are. Better the devil you know...
That is why Anonymous game is much more fair to newbies but seems the experienced won't think so, they love to play within their little circle and eliminate whose are not "friend"...

Are you referring to anyone in particular? Personally, I have been working with AND against some of the same people depending on the game. For me the decision is based first on the board, and second on a person's track record.

Diplomacy Diplomacy... while I am an 'admin' (from years ago...) when I came in here I felt the same way that you express... but I have come to see that it is not a conspiracy against 'newbies.' I find that folk who write a lot, and respond a lot, and keep writing, are doing well. There are a half dozen or so 'regulars' who work together a lot. But it is not unfair... they work together because they communicate. It took a couple of games before they 'accepted' that I was a serious diplomat, too. I hope you will stick around. And I hope we will end up in a game together so I can prove my point to you. :-)
I play equally in anonymous games and names games, and take each board as a new field. There are strategic considerations on many of the boards, but the biggest thing is communication and building up a sense of trust that another player will do what they say they will do. There are different styles, and the more you play with some people the more you begin to understand their style. That doesn't mean there aren't surprises, but some players can do surprises better and completely in the spirit of the game, while others can be erratic and at times vindictive. Of all the regulars on this site, I have been their opponent almost as often as their ally, and only more in the latter case because they communicate. And ALL of us were new at some point.

Several regulars seem to be meta-gaming, ruining it for others. You know who you are. Maybe that's why this site has so few participants.
I am not aware of any meta-gaming going on here, certainly less so that the other Facebook Diplomacy site. the one who did that a few months ago was caught by the administrators and banned (I think they were a multi-accounter). More people here will certainly lessen the appearances that sometime occur when regulars work together, but what usually happens is that most regulars *communicate* really well with others, and I (for one) work in each game usually with the best and most open communicators. But of course a lot of that echos what I already said here back in April.
It is nice to have you on this site Eliwhitney. You are obviously a very talented player, and I look forward to both working with you and locking horns with you (as I do with everyone) in many games to come.

Eli... if you have accusations, I would be glad to hear it. But if by 'meta-gaming' you mean people are willing to work together because they have learned to trust each other, I am not sure that is meta-gaming. I find alliances by map position and good communication at the beginning. MANY players don't bother communicating (NOT you...) and therefore don't end up in strong alliances.

" But if by 'meta-gaming' you mean people are willing to work together because they have learned to trust each other..."

The definition of meta-gaming.
Ozymandias (337 D Mod)
12 Aug 16 UTC
Not quite... meta-gaming, to me, means unfairly or with prejudice making the decision to ally. I wrote that I attempt to make alliances based on the map... and then by who communicates. Eli, we are in a game that I attempted to write to you with a serious proposal the very first turn... I never received an answer from you. I ended up allies with people I have played with before... but only after I wrote to every single player... some more than once. I didn't 'choose' them because I played with them before. I ended up with them because they responded, worked with me, and proved reliable again in THIS game. But I understand, I think, what you are complaining about. The same group often (but not always) work together...
